COLLIDER FESTIVAL AREA CONCEPT

As Rot8ion we expertise in surround music and synchronised surround visuals. Our festival area Collider was born out of the experiences we built up over the past years. Collider is our platform for artists to perform their music and visuals live for a an audience. With the right positioning of speakers and projections all around the dancefloor we create a completely new festival experience. The artists are positioned in the middle in order to control the surround music and visuals in the best possible way. The projected visuals react live to the music. The musicians and visual artists work closely together in teams of 2 and together they deliver a performance with sound and visuals as a whole experience. An 8.1 PA system (speakers from 8 directions) delivers the sound and an array of 4 to 16 beamers project the full surround visuals.

INTRODUCTION / INTERVIEWS

The following video tells about the progress we have made with Rot8ion. It shows how we have involved the feedback of innovative artists, like Monolake, to prepare for our next endeavour: a 360 degrees audio/video festival area called Collider. You will hear about first hand experiences of the Collider prototype at STRP Festival. The background music is composed by involved artist OBKSUR (Peter Horrevorts):

LIVE MUSIC + LIVE VISUALS

All the music acts on the Collider stage feature live visuals in 360 degrees around the audience! The video projections respond directly and clearly to the music and are controlled by a VJ and/or a computer.

MONOLAKE LIVE SURROUND

Live dubtechno with live visuals exploring the audiovisual surround possibilities in a club context. Robert Henke (one of the fathers of Ableton Live) does the surround audio part and Tarik Barri works with multiscreen video projections.

Robert's sonic explorations are rooted in academic sound research as well as in club culture. With his collaborative musical project 'Monolake' he became part of the legendary 'Chain Reaction' record label in the early 1990s, and shaped what later became 'the sound of Berlin techno music'.

Tarik use two computers running an adjusted version of his self-designed Versum engine, which allows him to VJ with 3D images live. Robert and Tarik are connected via a network so the images react to the music. Tarik controls live how the images react and evolve over time.

OBSKUR (A.K.A. PETER HORREVORTS)

In 2001 Peter Horrevorts released his first record; Sweets EP on X-trax under his guise Forcesupreme. His unique, bombastic and energetic style were highly appreciated by DJs like Marco Carola, Carl Cox and Adam Beyer. The even bigger follow-up "Funkfragment EP" ruled the DMC world charts for several weeks.

After this Peter wanted to experiment more with sound and melody and started producing tech-house with heavy Detroit influences, which resulted in releases on X-Trax Sub (Mirage EP) and Tsunami Special Blend. He has remixed work from artists such as Ferry Corsten, The Timewriter, Secret Cinema, Dj Misjah, Michel De Hey, Dj Remy and Roland Klinkenberg.

2008 saw the release of his full length debut album "EVOLVER" on Kanzleramt Records which received massive support from artists from many different scenes. "EVOLVER" can be bought as CD, VINYL or Digital format from the Kanzleramt website or other online portals.

OBKSUR will show a more experimental side of Peter.

As Echonaut he combines the skills from his academic background with his experience as minimal dj and producer of experimental electronic music. He explores new sound dimensions and creates worlds based on fantasies triggered by sound. These worlds are unique for each visitor. Lush layers of sounds, come from different directions and move around the visitor. Rob is the creative director of the Rot8ion electroacoustic surround effects instrument.

PRESK + TARIK BARRI

Presk is a house/garage producer and a graduated Master of Music and Technology. He will do something special for Collider! More details soon.

Tarik is an audiovisual composer based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Through the use of self made software he has developed methods for arranging images and sounds into audiovisual compositions. In doing this he is discovering new synergies and aesthetics in the combination of music and visuals. The main concept behind his works is that image and sound are connected in an inextricable way: the viewer hears images and sees sounds. Versum is a realtime three-dimensional audiovisual composition tool that Tarik programmed. It forces both the audience and the composer to look at the music and listen to the visuals. Within Versum one can undertake three dimensional journeys in virtual space. Tarik performs most of the time together with Robert Henke as Monolake, but also does solo performances (Fiber festival 2011) and performances with other artists, such as Presk.
